Job Summary:

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, supporting compliance with all applicable laws, and maintaining payroll system integrity. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze and reconcile payroll data across multiple states and entities. Ideal candidates will bring 3–5 years of experience and demonstrate a deep understanding of payroll systems and reporting tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and audit payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
  • Partner with HR and Finance to maintain accurate employee and tax data
  • Conduct regular audits and reconciliations of payroll transactions and reports
  • Prepare and analyze payroll metrics and dashboards for internal stakeholders
  • Serve as a systems expert; support configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Assist in year-end processing, including W-2s and tax filings
  • Respond to employee inquiries and resolve payroll-related issues promptly
  • Performs work under direct supervision.
  • Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of payroll systems and ability to quickly adapt to new platforms
  • Experience with platforms such as UKG Ready, ADP Workforce Now, Workday, Paylocity, or similar is helpful
  • Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables, and data formatting for payroll reporting
  • Ability to audit and reconcile payroll data with a high level of accuracy
  • Familiarity with payroll tax compliance and wage and hour laws
  • Comfortable working with timekeeping and HRIS systems, even if unfamiliar at first
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify discrepancies and propose solutions

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in payroll processing, ideally in a multi-state environment
  • Experience in high-volume, fast-paced settings is strongly preferred
  • Prior work in cannabis, retail, or consumer goods industries is a plus
  • CPP or FPC certification is a plus but not required

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on payroll experience
  • Strong systems knowledge and ability to learn new platforms quickly
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage/hour laws
  • Proficiency in Excel and payroll reporting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Availability to work on-site or in a hybrid capacity, as needed
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 15 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting at a desk, and working on a computer
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Ability to get in and out of a vehicle and walk up and down stairs during your shift.
  • Must be able to stand, sit for prolonged periods of time, bend, kneel, squat, and twist.
