Primary function of this night-time intensivist position working for the Hospitalist Service is to provide comprehensive care to Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) patients in collaboration with the internal medicine house staff, ICU based hospitalists, and the director and operations manager of the Hospitalist Service and the director of the MICU. Due to the size and complexity of the MICU there is a need for supervision of the house staff, hospitalists as well as direct patient care. Exemplifies behaviors reflecting Service Excellence and support of the Strategic Dimensions by modeling the Core Success Factors as described in the Performance Review.

EDUCATION
Teaches and supervises trainees overnight over the course of patient care Participates in continuing medical education (CME) activity annually that meets all medical staff reappointment criteria and improves quality of care provided by the service.
EXPERIENCE
Board certification or board eligible.
LICENSURE
MD Degree, full IM residency training and board certification in Internal Medicine is mandatory. The candidate must have completed (or expected to complete) a Critical Care Medicine or Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship program, and be Critical Care board eligible at the time of hire. Must have attending medical staff privileges while at Yale-New Haven Hospital, hold a valid Connecticut medical license, CT Controlled Substance Registration and Federal DEA Certificate. Must be BLS/ACLS certified.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Excellent clinical, interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, as well as with others. Invasive procedures such as central venous access placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial line placement, intubation of airway (placement of endotracheal tube) lumbar puncture, and pulmonary artery catheter placement preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Fourteen, twelve hour shifts per month. Reports at 7PM and works until 7AM the next day.
