About the job: BasBlue is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting women across the personal and professional by fostering authentic connections, elevated programming, and growth opportunities for the women of Detroit. Located in Midtown Detroit, BasBlue is the first-ever space of its kind in Michigan, providing a home for a diverse and inclusive community via annual membership, educational seminars, mentorship programs, wellness offerings, and a bustling café – all made by women, for women.

We are seeking a salaried General Manager to bring the BasBlue community to life and provide exceptional customer service to members and guests. The ideal candidate will be an extremely detail-oriented and personable multitasker who is comfortable working in a fast-paced setting. They will bring resourcefulness, organization, and stellar communication skills to the organization and will be counted on to serve as the face of the BasBlue Community.

Key Responsibilities:

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Oversee day-to-day cafe operations, ensuring consistency in service, quality, and guest experience.
  • Oversee day-to-day house operations, ensuring a consistent member experience
  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for FOH, BOH, and administrative functions. Monitor and optimize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including labor, food costs, and guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements across all locations. Manage licenses, permits, security, utilities, IT systems, and vendor contracts.
  • Mentor and develop FOH and BOH managers, ensuring strong leadership pipelines within the organization.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and staff development for all operational teams.
  • Manages receptionist and cafe team, inclusive of scheduling, training and development, hiring and termination
  • Processes new hire paperwork as needed
  • Processes payroll on a bi-weekly basis and oversees ADP timeclock for FOH & BOH employees.
  • Communicates print collateral needs to the marketing team for design/creation
  • Ensures the café and front desk employees are providing a high standard of service and contributing to the overall culture of BasBlue

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

  • Manages IT relationship and expected service
  • Manages AV relationship and expected service
  • Manages event management system for conference and meeting room reservations, ensuring that an accurate schedule is maintained to avoid conflicts
  • Manages operational trade schedules, maintenance and budgets including landscaping, sprinklers, elevator, plumber, kitchen equipment service, and beyond
  • Ensures a clean and orderly space, free of café dishes and garbage

EXPANSION, GROWTH, & CULTURE

  • Encourage and facilitate group or individual tours as scheduled or requested
  • Route membership inquiries, requests and feedback to Membership Manager as appropriate
  • Route event inquiries, requests and feedback to Events Manager
  • Foster a high-performance culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation
  • Act as an ambassador - greeting, getting to know and understand members, and offering friendly service to all guests and colleagues. Maintain exceptional guest and member experience standards
  • Responds to all inquiries, requests and issues in a timely, friendly and efficient manner; partnering with the necessary departments to resolve concerns

BUDGETING & FINANCE

  • Manages purchases vs. budget for operational orders. Creates and manages a checkbook to control food and beverage purchases
  • Responsible for Cafe budget, including meeting revenue targets and cost targets, with plans created when deficits arise

WORKING CONDITIONS

Business hours for BasBlue will be 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend programming to be expected. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This is an in-person job. Candidates must be adaptable and flexible. Additionally, you must be able to operate the following equipment: a MacBook computer or iPad, telephone, printer/copier, and fax machine.
