This role offers hybrid remote flexibility, based out of our culture hub located in Blue Ash, Ohio.

Position Summary:

The Cloud Engineer will work closely with senior architects and engineers to design, implement, and maintain cloud-based solutions that meet our clients' needs and adhere to our internal standards and security requirements, including those mandated by SOC 2. This role will involve assisting with architectural documentation, contributing to security control implementation and monitoring within cloud environments, and performing essential system administration tasks for our cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in cloud computing, a foundational understanding of security principles, and a desire to develop their skills in a dynamic cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Solution Engineering:

• Assist in the design and documentation of cloud-based solutions, including infrastructure, platforms, and software services on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Support the gathering and analysis of technical requirements for cloud solutions, considering scalability, cost, and security.
• Help create and maintain technical diagrams, solution blueprints, and documentation for cloud deployments.
• Research and evaluate cloud services and technologies to support solution development and optimization.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure successful implementation and deployment of designed cloud solutions.
• Assist with triage activities including communication, initial investigation, prioritization, and routing of issues reported by customers.

Security Responsibilities in the Cloud:

• Support the implementation and monitoring of security controls within cloud environments as required by SOC 2 security standards.
• Assist in documenting cloud security configurations, access controls, and compliance procedures.
• Monitor cloud activity logs and security alerts for suspicious activity and support security incident response in cloud infrastructure.
• Participate in internal and external audits related to cloud security and SOC 2 compliance by providing necessary documentation and evidence.
• Contribute to managing user access and permissions within cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with least privilege principles.
• Help maintain an accurate inventory of cloud assets and data stores relevant to SOC 2 scope.
• Support the cloud change management process, ensuring security impact assessments are conducted for changes.

Cloud System Administration Tasks:

• Assist with the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of laptops and cloud related infrastructure.
• Support user and access management within Google Workspaces and Microsoft Entra.
• Troubleshoot issues related to laptops, licenses, cloud services, and deployments.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
• Experience developing IT and cloud infrastructure
• Basic understanding of networking principles in a cloud context (VPCs, security groups, etc.).
• Familiarity with security principles and their application in cloud environments.
• Experience in software engineering and system design architecture
• Positive outlook in meeting challenges and working to a high level
• General understanding of business analysis techniques and processes
• Communicate complex issues crisply and concisely to peers and managers.
• Leadership and negotiation skills necessary to work effectively with colleagues at various levels of the organization and across multiple locations
• Experience with any of the major cloud providers - AWS, Azure, or GCP - AWS or Azure experience or certification preferred
• Experience with software development, DevOps best practices, and automation methodologies
• Strong collaboration skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills (Bonus Points):

• Proficiency with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation in the cloud.
• Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud automation tooling such as Ansible and Terraform.
• Knowledge of SOC 2 requirements and experience in a compliance-focused environment.
• Previous experience in a system administration or network administration role.
• Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures
